Notice of Appointment
(Montreal, January 10, 2008) – André Vallerand, President of the CED, is pleased to announce the appointment of César Castañeda as Director of Operations.
As part of his duties, Mr. Castañeda will further develop the System for Measuring Excellence in Destinations (SMED). A new CED service, SMED has the objective of encouraging destinations to make themselves known as destinations of excellence by means of a measurement system based on reliable, expert-validated criteria.
Mr. Castañeda has a doctorate in Economic History from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris, France. His academic and professional training, vast experience in international tourism, command of foreign languages, and understanding of cultures will all contribute to the success of the CED.
Over the past years, Mr. Castañeda was Director of Mexico Tourism Board at the Montreal and Toronto offices.
About the World Centre of Excellence for Destinations (CED)
The CED is a non-profit organization dedicated to the research and creation of tools that promote the sustainable tourism development of destinations throughout the world. In fulfilling this mandate, the CED is also implementing the mission of the Destination Council and departments of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) by bringing added value and expertise to innovative policies and practices on tourist destination management. UNWTO is the United Nations agency for tourism and is comprised of 153 member countries and some 300 affiliate members from the tourism industry. The CED has signed partnership agreements with Canada Economic Development and Quebec's Ministère du Tourisme and Ministère des Affaires Municipal and des Regions.
