Signing of an agreement between the President of the CED, André Vallerand, and the President of Tourisme Cantons-de-l’Est, Jocelyna Dubuc, aimed at implementing the SMED in the tourist destination of astern the Eastern Townships in the province of Québec, Canada.

The CED sponsors the Rendez-vous Champlain tourism conference. On June 2, Francesco Frangialli, UNWTO Secretary-General, presents a lunch conference under the theme, “Tourism destinations in the world: trends and perspectives”. On June 3, André Vallerand, President of the CED, presents a lunch conference entitled, “The CED and its System for Measuring Excellence in Destinations”.

Participation in the XVII General Assembly of the World Tourism organization (UNWTO) in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia and presentation of the CED’s mission and objectives to the 116 members and 55 affiliated members.

The CED co-signs, with Tourisme Montréal and Héritage Montréal, the National Geographic Society's Geotourism Charter, making Montréal the first urban destination in the world to adhere to this charter.

Meeting at UNWTO's Headquarters in Madrid presided by UNWTO Secretary-General Mr. Francesco Frangialli, bringing together representatives of six of the UNWTO member states that demonstrated their interest in contributing to the development of the CED and the SMED: Saudi Arabia, China, France, Spain, Mexico, and Monaco.
